2007 KILI MUSIC AWARDS organisers have announced that all is set for the gala to take place on May 25 at the Diamond Jubilee hall in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking to the media in Dar es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro Lager brand manager Oscar Shelukindo said that music lovers will have to part with 50,000/- to witness the event live, while winners in each of the 21 categories would receive between 1m/- and 350,000/- cash prizes.
The event, which has cost about 300m/- to organise, is set to be the best event ever. Shelukindo defended their decision of spending lion's share of the budget on organising the event instead of spending the money on the artistes.
"It is very expensive to organise the event because sound and lighting systems complete with the operators would be coming from outside the country," he said.
The Hip-hop category has been excluded for what the organisers termed as a difficult task of picking winning album as burdensome because of 'a cocktail of styles' in them.
The Kilimanjaro Lager brand manager also named TV and radio adverts, as well as posters and other memorabilia and the invitation of a foreign guest star as other areas where too much money will go.
He named nominees from the Mwanza Zone as Macy Y and Simon in the new generation music category, while Mwanza Sanaa Troupe has been picked in the traditional music category.
Contiguous and JKT Oljoro are the Arusha Zone nominees in the new generation and traditional music categories, respectively, while from Dodoma it is Till I Die Connections and Hiari ya Moyo. Zuberi Juma and Mbeya Community Development Organisation will come from Mbeya.
Other categories include best female and male vocalists, best taarab album and single, song of the year, best Kiswahili rhythms single band, best Kiswahili rhythms album. Others are best Tanzania folk music single, best Tanzania folk music album and best hip-hop single, best reggae/ragga rhythms single and best rap artiste.
Best East African album, best music composer, best song producer, best song writer, best Tanzania video producer, best zouk single, best zonal artist, best upcoming artiste, best collaboration single, hall of fame and best zonal artiste in tradition dance are the other.
Shelukindo said voting would continue up to May 21, 2007 and fans should vote for their favourite artistes through:
